CR Power conducts a “Visit for Young Students from Hong Kong to CR Power on Social Responsibility” Activity

On May 27th and 28th, CR Power conducted “Visit for Young Students from Hong Kong to CR Power on Social Responsibility” activity. In this activity, fifteen young student representatives from Hong Kong were invited, as social responsibility observers, to visit Guangzhou China Resources Thermal Power Co. Ltd. and Hezhou China Resources Circular Economy Industrial Park. Here, they would increase their knowledge about modern Chinese power plants, including their work and achievements in the production process, green development and environmental protection, social responsibility and other aspects. Their other task would be to conduct public welfare activities in schools for migrant workers’ children and the elderly nursing homes, to fulfill their own social responsibilities.

On May 27th, the activity commenced in Guangzhou China Resources Thermal Power Co. Ltd. At the launching ceremony, relevant directors of CR Power welcomed these young students from Hong Kong, introduced them to the general situation and social responsibilities of CR Power, while also indicating the purpose and significance of this activity. The “Visit for Young Students from Hong Kong to CR Power on Social Responsibility” activity is an activity with social merit, jointly carried out by CR Power and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. The goal is to further urge CR Power to fulfill its responsibility, increase young people’s sense of social responsibility, establish a bridge of communication between young people in Mainland China and Hong Kong, and promote exchange and common development in terms of fulfillment of social responsibility in both Mainland China and Hong Kong. Concerned directors of CR Power Investment Co., Ltd. South China Branch Company and Guangzhou China Resources Thermal Power Co. Ltd. respectively introduced the progress of the South-Central Region and Guangzhou China Resources Thermal Power Co. Ltd. Their main focus was on describing the transformation to ultra-low emission and its results, safety, health and environmental protection management work, and the “Open Day” activity organized by Guangzhou China Resources Thermal Power Co. Ltd.

Chen Yuhao from the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups appreciated that CR Power provides this opportunity for Hong Kong young students, allowing them to visit the power plant on a field trip. He stated that energy, environmental protection, science & technology and social responsibility would be their key learning points during the visit. Due to common ideas about the cultivation of youth’s strengths, shared between CR Power and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, he also hoped that the two bodies could jointly set up any learning and exchange opportunities for young students. The goal of this would be to help them increase their sense of social responsibility and improve their social development. During the face-to-face exchange, Huang Shuhang, a freshman from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, said, “I quite appreciate that CR Power insists on energy conservation, emission reduction and green development, and dares to challenge public opinion. This reflects the sense of social responsibility that an enterprise should have.” After the meeting, the young students from Hong Kong went to the factory section of Guangzhou China Resources Thermal Power Co. Ltd. to visit its centralized control room, turbo-generator platform, circulating water pump house, public bulletin board, etc. They also went to the “Farmers’ Orchard” to taste the fruits and vegetables that are cultivated by employees in their spare time.

As Children’s Day approaches, CR Power and these young students from Hong Kong went on to visit Nansha District Xinhui School, to conduct the “Light Your Dream” public welfare activity during the afternoon of May 27th. At this school, which caters to migrant workers’ children in the Nansha District, Guangzhou, there are many primary and middle school students with a poor family background. They can continue to study thanks to donations to this school by CR Power over the years. CR Power donated books and stationery to the school as well. The students from Hong Kong walked onto the podium and among students to conduct “Learn about the World’s Scenic Spots One by One,” “Green Little Pioneer,” “The Journey of Dreams,” and other links in an interactive and enlightening manner. The goal of this was to guide primary school students to expand their horizons, enhance their ideas on environmental protection, set up their worldly ideals and encourage the children to act on them. The vivid and novel content, as well as the wonderful and interesting interpretations, attracted the primary school students to actively participate in these interactions, cultivating a highly energetic class atmosphere. At last, the Hong Kong students donated their favorite books to the primary students as gifts.

On May 28th, the “Visit for Young Students from Hong Kong to CR Power on Social Responsibility” activity was continued in Hezhou China Resources Circular Economy Industrial Park located in Fuchuan Yao Autonomous County, Hezhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The relevant director of China Resources Power (Hezhou) Co., Ltd. gave a detailed introduction, which came down to the following: Near-zero emission of pollutants is achieved by the recycling of industrial waste and pollutants in “power plant, cement plant, brewery” sectors within the park; The efforts made to fulfill corporate social responsibility by Hezhou Power Plant; The working practices and achievements made by Hezhou Power Plant in energy conservation and consumption reduction, the upgrading and transformation of ultra-low emission and environmental protection, promotion of local economic and social development, school donations, elderly care, building a harmonious community, etc. After the meeting, the young Hong Kong students cheerfully went on to the Circular Economy Experience Center, where they would further learn about the operation mode of the closed-economy industry. Furthermore, they visited the production sites of Hezhou Power Plant and a snow brewery of China Resources.

In the afternoon of May 28th, those Hong Kong students were instructed to organize the “Bulb Action” activity for warming and caring in Runfeng Happiness Compound, Xiawan Village. It was raining the whole time in Fuchuan, but in Siyuan Pavilion next to the Happiness Compound, employees from the Hezhou Power Plant and young students from Hong Kong got together with more than 30 elderly people from Xiawan Village. Together, they provided elaborately prepared shows for these elderly people. “Passing on the Balloon,” “Healthy Towel Exercise,” “Dropping Rings for Treasure,” “Guess What the Actions Mean,” and other interactive games have brought the students closer to these old people from the Yao village. Additionally, there were shows like a folk song, Song of Butterflies, by an elder sister from the Yao region, the Long-Drum Dance of Yao Nationality by employees from the Hezhou Power Plant, as well as the songs Legend of the Dragon and Tomorrow Will Be Better by young students from Hong Kong. All these activities resulted in pleasant laughter and cheerful voices. After these interactive activities, CR Power presented their energy-saving bulbs, edible oil, rice and other materials to the Happiness Compound. Young students from Hong Kong visited Xiawan Village, which is also known as the “Village of Beauty.”

During the farewell dinner, a representative of these young Hong Kong students shared his feelings about the survey. Xie Jing from Lingnan University said that this was a delightful and meaningful activity, and that he learnt about things that he could never learn in class and from textbooks. He added that he learned many new concepts and updated some of his own backward ideas and original impressions of the power plant, after visiting the high-tech and environmentally-friendly power plant. Zeng Ke’er, who has just participated in an college entrance exam in Hong Kong, expressed her praise for CR Power with “Produce Power with Energy Resources through Correct Methods.” She said that, after coming face-to-face with the process, she really felt that CR Power’s energy utilization and power production methods were very environmentally-friendly and moral. It’s great circulation to gift the obtained economic benefits as care to children and old people, and giving back to society in this way. Meanwhile, those Hong Kong students expanded their horizons and changed some of their previous ideas after the activity. Therefore, she hopes that there will be more opportunities like this.
